Question : my female cat has lost some fur around her rectum and it seems to irritate her, could this be a bowel problem?
Answer : Ok. The reason I always double check on the gender is that males can very easily block up in their urinary system! I would be suspicious that her being in the litter box and not doing anything means either of these:
1) Urinary tract infection. This is my biggest suspicion. They usually have an irritated bladder and will posture / go to the bathroom very frequently.
2) Constipation.
3) Diarrhea. This always makes people as why? If they have diarrhea, shouldn’t a lot of material be coming out? Not all the time. At some point, they have no fecal material really left to come out, but the colon is still irritated and they feel that they have more to come out.
4) Anal gland issues.
The lost fur, that could be from her licking back there due to the irritation. I would have her checked out as soon as possible her monday to see what is going on. Sooner on that exam if she starts to act painful, gets depressed, or starts vomiting!
